This routine identifies those items that are slow movers, and allows you to manually override the item control values (forecast, EOQ, ROP, SST) for these items. This identification is done on the item/warehouse level.
The reason for identifying slow movers is that it is difficult to calculate the purchase control values for these items using common methods. But by identifying slow movers and manually setting their purchase control values, you can override the values calculated by the system. In doing so, you create more realistic purchase control values for slow movers.

Slow moving stock list printout/Update (INVD3162)
On this panel you define what items are slow moving, and establish the manual override values to be used when these items are updated.
Update criteria
Select one of the following methods for the analysis of slow moving items:
- Last movement date
- Enter a date indicating the last movement date for the items to be selected. This date is compared to the Date of issue field in the Warehouse file. All items that have not been moved since the entered date will be included in the analysis.
- No of movements YTD
- Enter the number of movements for the items to be selected. For example, if you enter 5, the system will select those items that have moved five times or less so far this year. The comparison value is retrieved from the No of issues YTD field in the Warehouse file.
- Year forecast
- Enter a forecast to select items that have a certain year forecast. For example, if you enter 50, the system selects the items that have a year forecast of fifty or less. Note: The value the system uses for comparison is always the system calculated value. It is never the manually entered year forecast. The comparison value is retrieved from the Item/Warehouse file.
- Null qty periods
- Enter a number to select items for which there has been no demand for a certain number of historical forecast periods. For example, if you enter 4, the system looks at demand for the present forecast period and the last four historical forecast periods. If there was no demand for a specific item/warehouse combination in these forecast periods, the item will be selected as a slow mover. The demand value is retrieved from the Forecast file.
New override values
Note: The values you enter in this section can be changed before update, if you set the Update in work file field below to YES.
Enter the new manual override values to be used in the update of the item/warehouse combinations that have been identified as slow movers. The override values are valid until the date that is defined in End date field. For each value, you also have to state an Update code indicating what should be updated in the Item/Warehouse file.
The following Item/Warehouse file values can be updated:
- Manual frcst
- Manual EOQ
- Manual ROP
- Manual SST
- End date
- Enter the end date for each manually entered value. If you enter 999999, then the override remains in effect until you remove the figures.
- Update code
- Enter an update code for each manually entered override value defining what fields will be updated in the Item/Warehouse file.
Code Description 1 The Manual year forecast, Manual EOQ, Manual ROP, Manual SST and End override date fields will be updated in the Item/Warehouse file for all selected slow moving items. 2 The End override date field will be updated in the Item/Warehouse file for all selected slow moving items.
- Update in work file
- Indicate if you want to print the analysis report and update the calculated values to an (interim) work file before the new calculated item control values for the item/warehouse combinations are updated in the system. NO is defaulted. Enter YES to be able to change the details of the values in the Work with slow moving stock analysis routine before they are updated in the Item/Warehouse file.
- Slow moving stock ID
- Enter a code for the analysis in order to identify the calculated values in the Work with slow moving stock analysis routine.
- ID description
- Enter a description of the analysis.
