Parameters used to search for information in DC1 Alert Management are also able to contain filters, used to refine these searches. Filters can be used to override the creation of a message, even if it fulfils the requirements, as laid out in the parameters and limits. These may be simply referred to as exceptions to the rule. Filters are also useful in that you can filter out and select messages in the instances of a batch event, and thereby not have the receiver inundated with many, unnecessary messages.
The following describes how to add a filter to a parameter that has already been configured for an event type.
You can only add a filter to an event that has already at least one parameter defined. See Create parameters for an event type.
The scenario exemplified here is the creation of a filter on the parameter of this event, to negate all but one of the messages that will be created, when this alert occurs. This is to say, only one message will be sent to the receiver, informing of this occurrence.
- Click Parameters for the event type you want to work with.
- You access Work with parameters. Select the applicable parameter and click Filters.
- You access Work with filters. Click Add.
- On the Work with filters detail panel, complete the following fields:
- Sequence
- This field is used to show the order number in which you would like this filter to be executed. Since you are able to make use of several filters in each parameter, this field allows you to determine the sequential order in which these should be performed.
- Description
- Enter a description for this filter.
- Active
- Indicate if this filter is to be active.
- Type
- This field is made up of three sections. Two of these are used as comparable values, and the third is used to indicate in which manner these are compared. There are three types of filters that you can add to a parameter:
- Value
- The various value combinations for the filter are entered in this field and are determined by the manner in which the parameter, that this filter is being created for, is configured.
- Enter, for example, DAY (day), EQ (Equal to), 1 to inform the system to make note of a new order number being created, as determined by the parameter values.
Type | Description |
---|---|
1 | This type is used to compare and filter numeric, alphabetic or date formatted values. The value comparison works through the first part of the field being of a value in terms of DAYS and WEEKS. Therefore, this filter type is only valid for date parameters (parameter type D). The date values in the parameters that are created by AMT then have this parameter value compared to today’s date, and the filter value is then used to determine the legitimacy of this message. |
2 | Type 2 filters are based on event occurrences. Valid values in the first section are DAY and NBR (number) for the second. This filter is therefore applicable for all parameters. A comparison is done to check to see if the event type and parameters are exactly the same as found earlier. If an exact match is found, for example, the filter will come into play and the message not created if, for example, the filter value is DAY – EQ – 1, and the match was created earlier today. |
3 | Type 3 filters are based on values being compared with a specific parameter. To this end, the only valid entry for the first part is therefore PARM (parameter). The system will compare the value found in the data string and if a match is made, the filter will come into play, depending on the comparison and secondary value that has been entered. This filter type is used to address the message to overriding receivers (which are added here, on filter level). |
Click OK to save your filter and exit the routine.
