Setting up the functionality for automatic creation of EAN-13 numbers

This document outlines the instructions for setting up the functionality for automatic creation of EAN-13 numbers. Note: Usage of EAN-8 or IFT14 requires manual creation of EAN numbers.

All new Item/Unit records created for the types of items that allow this automatic EAN number creation will automatically receive an EAN number; retrieved to the EAN number field on the Item file maintenance, Units panel.

DIS control file Extension package and shipment info panel	If you want the EAN-13 numbering to be a combination of a company prefix plus a number series, complete the following fields: Length of com prefix Enter the number of digits that the Company prefix parameter (below) must be comprised of. This value determines the length of the code used to identify your EAN number series. Permitted values are 6, 7 or 9. Company prefix Enter the number that will identify your company in the EAN-13 number series. The number of digits entered must correspond to the value entered in the Length of com prefix. Example: If your company prefix is 6 digits, enter 6 in the Length of com prefix field and then the applicable six digits in the Company prefix field. Set up EAN number series Set up your EAN number series by clicking the Maint extended numb series function key, or by accessing the Extended number series menu item. Complete the following information. Series Description Digits in no series The EAN-13 number series has to be defined with 12 digits (if not using a company prefix), or with a number of digits, that together with the length of the company prefix, is equal to 12. Example: If you are using a company prefix, and the length of the company prefix equals 6, you would enter 6 digits in this field. A control digit will automatically be added to the number when it is created. First number to use Last number to use Click OK to update. On the DIS control file maintenance, Extension package and shipment info panel, enter the EAN-13 number series code in the EAN number field. EAN creation set-up and exceptions Click the EAN creation set-up function key. On the EAN creation set-up panel, make your selections of what types of items are valid for this automatic EAN-13 numbering. If you want to define exceptions, thereby excluding items that are not to be included in the automatic EAN-13 numbering, click the Exceptions function key. The EAN creation setup, Item related DIS control keys panel, displays all item-related keys that are valid for selection. These can be used to enter exceptions, i.e. the values for the items that are not to be included in the automatic EAN-13 number creation. Highlight the applicable DIS control key and click the Exception option. Add the values that you want to exclude.

Set up EAN number series
Set up your EAN number series by clicking the Maint extended numb series function key, or by accessing the Extended number series menu item. Complete the following information.

On the DIS control file maintenance, Extension package and shipment info panel, enter the EAN-13 number series code in the EAN number field.

EAN creation set-up and exceptions

Click the EAN creation set-up function key.
On the EAN creation set-up panel, make your selections of what types of items are valid for this automatic EAN-13 numbering.
If you want to define exceptions, thereby excluding items that are not to be included in the automatic EAN-13 numbering, click the Exceptions function key.
The EAN creation setup, Item related DIS control keys panel, displays all item-related keys that are valid for selection. These can be used to enter exceptions, i.e. the values for the items that are not to be included in the automatic EAN-13 number creation. Highlight the applicable DIS control key and click the Exception option.
Add the values that you want to exclude.
