When adding or copying an item, you are able to build an item based on its segment type. Once you have configured DC1 to present the Item file, Build item code from segments panel, (as outlined in Activate item segmentation in view controls), this function will be activated.
- Select the Work with items menu item.
- You access Work with items, Active. Click Add. (The steps that follow are also true in instances where you are copying an item).
- You access Item file, Build item code from segments. Enter the segmentation type you want to work with.
- You access the second Item file, Build item code from segments panel.
- Segmentation type
- The value entered can be changed and replaced by another valid entry from the Item segmentation types table. A description of this segment type is listed along side this field.
- Segment
- Up to 6 segments can now be entered for the item, based on the segmentation type that was entered in the field above. Note: If the segment values for these segmentation types were configured so as to require validation, entries made here must be valid in the Item segment values table. These are configured in Assign segment values.
- Delimiter
- If the segmentation type entered is based on the Segmentation by delimiters method, enter a valid delimiter for each segment in the field adjacent to the Segment. Note: If the delimiter for all the segments is the same, then this may be entered in the Common delimiter field below.
- Overflow
- An extra (non-segmented) value may be entered, to be added to the new item code.
- Common delimiter
- When setting up the item segments in the Segment field, each of these segments may be awarded a unique delimiter. However, should there be a delimiter that is common to each segment, then it is entered in this field. Note: The value entered here will override the individual values entered in the Delimiter fields for each segment.
- You access Item file, Basic data. The Item field will display the new, confirmed item code for the item that you are adding/copying and the Segmentation type field will denote the relevant segmentation type to which this item conforms. You can now continue to complete the steps that are normally taken when adding/copying an item. See About working with items.
Complete the fields and click OK. You remain on the same panel. The Item field is updated with a new item code. To confirm that that is correct, click OK.
