Preliminary manufacturing orders

Related topics

Manufacturing orders that are created from a sales order or a project order are referred to as preliminary manufacturing orders. Note: Only items with item class 2 (non-stock item standard) or 3 (configuration item) result in preliminary manufacturing orders. If the item already exists in stock, no preliminary manufacturing order will be created from the sales order entry.

Preliminary manufacturing orders have status 00. To continue processing the preliminary manufacturing order it has to be released. The status of a released manufacturing order is 10.

Note: A released manufacturing order can receive status 05. If so, the order will have to be released in batch clearance as well. (See Release manufacturing orders using the batch clearance routine). Released manufacturing orders have status 05 in the following cases:

  • The manufacturing order type has Batch clearance set to YES.
  • The component(s) has/have Order allocation set to YES in the item warehouse.

When you are about to release a preliminary manufacturing order, it is important to know if the necessary material is available. DC1 Manufacturing’s clearance function investigates the issue, and displays the material in shortage. The reason why the possible shortage has occurred may be analysed using the planning display, and suitable measures can then be taken.

When a manufacturing order is accepted for production the connected sales order line or project order line is updated with the new accepted completion date.
