For an item to be registered in the Service object file two conditions must be fulfilled in DC1 Distribution:
- The item must be under serial number tracking control.
- The Repair history field on the Item file/Inventory panel must be set to YES.
There are several ways of entering a service object:
- Normally, the serial number for each individual piece is registered when the reception note for a specific purchase order is confirmed. The service object is then automatically registered in the Service object file, or the service object life cycle begins when the service object is sold.
- You can enter a service object manually. When, for example, a service agreement or stand-alone service job is entered for a customer whose item has not been sold by DC1 Distribution, the item becomes a service object at object registration.
When the object is created, measurement types are assigned to the object from the service information in the Item file. Measurement readings can be updated using object maintenance or during the service order job close. When a new reading is entered, the previous one is saved in the Measurement history file. You can manually maintain reporting and invoicing information and make available history controls and calculations via the Work with service objects, Work with measurement history menu item. See Maintain measurement history for a service object.
The warranties for an item are specified in the service information for the item by completion of the Warranty type fields. When a service object is manually created or sold these fields are automatically copied from the Item file to the service object.
In addition, the duration of the warranty is automatically calculated based on the dispatch date and the warranty duration. The duration is retrieved from the Warranty type table.
Note: These fields can be maintained through the Work with service objects routine in order to adjust the warranty condition if necessary, or new warranties can be added.
